For those of you hoping that this is trash the mother of your husband post, think again. I seriously have THE BEST MOTHER-IN-LAW ever. Not everyone is so lucky I know - but I just have to let you know how great she is and how lucky we are to have her. We never have "issues" or things that have to be addressed. Well, I take that back, when we got married our wedding guest list was a little large, but they are Italian and that is just the way it is. But really, I couldn't have picked a better guy & family if I tried.
"Mom" comes over to the house to watch Jimmy when I have to volunteer at Julia's preschool and comes over every Wednesday when i take Jimmy to Stay & Play. She also is usually the one that I call when I need to run to get my hair cut, go to the doctor, or do something where I can't have the kids with me. But the best is when she calls in the morning and asks us if we'd like to come for dinner that night. I LOVE THAT! A weekday meal I don't have to cook and the kids love to see her. Last night we went over for our favorite cold weather meal of Stuffed Peppers. This is in my top 5 of all time favorite meals. The kids played with Kurt's old cars and Lincoln logs, they got baths and we left all full and happy.
It really is not all about us and what she does for us though. I know that she appreciates having us so close to her and willing to stop by to do whatever it is that she needs to have done. I know that having her grand kids just a quick car ride away can brighten her day, even though Julia & Jimmy are her 8th/9th grand kids. I know that she has to be a little lonely with Dad being gone (he passed away 6 years ago) and hopefully we are able to fill that void for her a little. I know it warms my heart when I hear Jimmy chant over and over his version of Grandma - which sounds like a cross between "Ya-Ya" (which would be perfect if we were Greek) and "Lasagne" (which is pretty appropriate).
